Description

San Jose State University has a rich history in the sport of golf, featuring many highlights for both our women's and men's teams throughout the years. Many of our student-athletes have had successful careers in professional golf, including Ken Venturi, Roger Maltbie, Juli Inkster, Patty Sheehan, Pat Hurst, Arron Oberholser, Mark Lye, and Mark Wiebe.

Since 1947, SJSU has hosted the annual Western Intercollegiate golf tournament, the longest-running collegiate men's golf tournament in the United States. The Western, which takes place at famed Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, has attracted a highly competitive field of teams, including many of golf's rising stars. As of March 2022, more than 70 former Western Intercollegiate golfers have realized success on the PGA Tour, accounting for more than 485 tour victories, including 49 major championships.

As of 2019, Golf Channel now broadcasts live coverage of the Western Intercollegiate during primetime. The Western was the first regular season collegiate men's golf tournament to be featured in this way, a testament to the prestige of our long-running competition. To produce an event worthy of their TV audience, we need help from many volunteers working behind the scenes: walking scorers, spotters for Golf Channel's production crew, operations, and hospitality.

More information on the Western Intercollegiate tournament is available at www.westernintercollegiate.golf, including specific details on volunteer roles and available shifts.
