Mission Statement

The mission of Power Over Parkinson's is to enhance the lives of those in the local community affected by Parkinson's disease by providing access to a program scientifically proven to slow disease progression in an environment that embraces empowerment, motivation and social interaction.

Description

The POP Fit program, specifically designed for people with PD and their care partners. Classes, open to any individual with PD, are tailored to meet each person’s level of Parkinson’s and their care partners are also encouraged to participate in the program. The monthly unlimited membership fee of $50 includes the person with PD and one additional person from their household to participate. POP’s mission is to provide a program to all persons regardless of ability to pay and membership scholarships are available based upon need.

Two class levels (Level 1-2 & Level 3-4) are offered based on physical fitness and Parkinson’s progression. All classes are 60 minutes in length and held daily, Monday through Friday. Size is kept manageable so that both participant and care partner are able to receive individualized instructor attention. Classes are conducted by independent contractor instructors who are professionally certified in exercise, specific fitness modalities and have been thoroughly vetted and selected because of their experience in working with the Parkinson’s commTught by a PT who specializes in neurological impairments and has over 15 years of experience working with Parkinson’s individuals, the class focus is on movement techniques to help with balaunity. The curriculum includes:

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) incorporating Rock Steady Boxing (RSB)
Balance & Strength
Adaptive Yoga
Speech Therapy
