Mission Statement

Our mission at S & L Foster Family Agency is to provide safe housing, educational assistance, employment training, therapeutic services, independent living skills and parenting training for adolescent youth and young parents within the foster care system. Our goal is to empower, develop self- efficient young adults, provide stability, and preserve at-risk families through culturally sensitive programs designed to achieve positive parenting skills, academic and employment goals.

Description

Career Development Program: Youth are provided with access to laptops at the Career Development Center, financial planning material, resume building sessions to prepare for college, transportation to interviews and free business attire to prepare youth for job and college interviews. At-risk youth will engage in self-help skills such as cooking, assistance in applying for driver's training courses, work permits, and more. "My Bedding" Project : Youth receive a comforter set with a matching poster, wall decor, and commands strips to gently hang the decor in their bedroom helping to establish a sense of pride and security. These items will remain in their care even if they transition into a new home or out of foster care. "Celebrate Me" Project : As a way to honor culture and major milestones for our youth, we plan a party for youth who wish to celebrate a Quinceaǹƒera, Sweet 16, graduation, and/or a baby shower by helping them purchase their attire, venue, and inviting important people in their lives. We also provide hair care and hygiene products to ensure their basic needs are met as well give free hair tutorials to foster parents who are caring for culturally diverse children/youth.
