Mission Statement

Mission The Lemong’o Project is a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to empowering the Maasai people of Lemong’o in rural Kenya through nutrition, education, health support, and employment. Description The Lemong'o Project is a small but mighty (fewer than 10 Board members), all-volunteer nonprofit organization. Approximately 96% of all funds raised go directly to support the people of Lemong'o. We work collaboratively with the Manyatta Committee, our Board equivalent in Lemong'o. We strongly believe they should guide decision making because they represent the people of Lemong'o. Our goal is to provide the resources needed to create sustainability and empower the people of Lemong'o so that in the future they will no longer need this type of support.

Description

The Lemong’o Project began with Founder, Carolyn Tague's, life-long draw to Africa and her dream of helping the children there.
*Pay salaries for 3 teachers. By providing this support, school tuition is reduced making school accessible to more children. *Hold 2 free medical clinics each summer. We hire a local doctor, eye doctor, 2 nurses, and lab technician. Patients (all ages) receive free exams, medications, referrals as needed, and follow-up treatment. *Purchase, at fair trade prices, beaded handicrafts (jewelry, baskets, ornaments) made by the women of Lemong'o. The handicrafts are brought back to the United States and sold with 100% of the proceeds directly benefitting the people of Lemong'o.
