At Agave Hospice, we strive to support our patients and their families every step of the way in their end-of-life journey. Part of that support comes by providing patients with friendship and companionship in their final months, weeks and days. Many patients spend the majority of their day in one room, and it can be lonely for them as well as exhausting for their families turned caregivers. Our volunteers "adopt" patients to befriend and regularly visit them as their dignosis takes its course, and we help them end their journey on Earth with quality of life. Volunteers can provide enrichment for our patients by spending time with them in conversation, reading them books, walking their dog or simply watching TV with them. They can sit with a patient while a caregiver takes a much needed rest, or runs errands, or help a patient write a life review. Volunteers fill the social and human connection need that is so often lacking when someone becomes isolated due to illness. All our Volunteers go through general Volunteer Orientation and can then go out into the community where our patients reside, either in their private homes, nursing facilites or group homes. This is a non-clinical volunteer role. Volunteers are not responsible for physically caring for patients, but instead offer a gentle presence for a dying person.

At Agave Hospice, we strive to support our patients and their families every step of the way in their end-of-life journey. Part of that support comes by providing theraputic music to fill our patients with peace, joy and nostalgia in their final months, weeks and days. All our Volunteers go through general Volunteer Orientation and can then go out into the community where our patients reside and serve them with their musical talent. This can come in the form of visiting group homes and nursing facilities where patients and general residents alike benefit, or going to a hospice patient's private home. This is a non-clinical volunteer role. Vigil Volunteers are not responsible for physically caring for patients, but instead offer a gentle presence for a dying person.

At Agave Hospice, we strive to support our patients and their families every step of the way in their end-of-life journey. Part of that support comes from making sure actively dying patients are not alone in their last days, hours and minutes by providing Vigil Volunteers to sit with them during this precious time. Our Vigil Volunteers go through general Volunteer Orientation and then are trained specifically in the characteristics of death and dying by our Clinical team to gain familiarity with what to expect. From there, when a patient is actively dying and is alone, or the family needs additional support, our team calls on our Vigil Volunteers to sit at the bedside and offer the "gift of presence". Our Vigil Volunteers keep "vigil" by providing emotional and spiritual support with gentleness and reflection. It's an act of love, respect, solidarity and helping the patient feel comfortable and not alone in their final moments. This is a non-clinical volunteer role. Vigil Volunteers are not responsible for physically caring for patients, but instead offer a gentle presence for a dying person.
