SouthernCare Hospice is seeking volunteers to cut patients' hair and help them feel beautiful! We have a few patients who are not able to leave their homes due to mobility issues or pain, but who still deserve to feel beautiful and neat. Your help can really make a difference in a hospice patient's life! Since you'll be visiting patients, we do require a TB test, drug screen, fingerprinting, background check, proof of COVID vaccination, and completion of a training session. For more information or to register for orientation, please email john.grossman@southerncareinc.com or call for John at 330-920-1909. Join our team of exceptional, caring volunteers!

Southerncare Hospice does not only provide exceptional care, but also enhances it's services with the help of our volunteers. Visiting a patient for an hour- once a week, twice a month, 4 times a month or even once a month makes a great difference to our patients. Conversations, music which could include playing an instrument to the patient or even singing, reading, watching television together or accompanying a patient to a facility activity can brighten a patient's day where it gives him/her something to look forward to each week or month. Our volunteers choose which patient they wish to visit, we make visits easy and convenient for both our volunteers and our patients. We serve patients in portage county, stark county, summit county and medina county, and we have the need for volunteers. So think about sharing some time with one (or more) of our patients. The Southerncare hospice volunteer program offers opportunities for volunteers not only to make a difference in the patients lives that they visit, but also gives them the opportunity to meet other volunteers with similar goals and values, and also attend monthly lunch and learn education presentations as well as other activities during the year. We of course invite you to join our team of outstanding volunteers!!!!!

The Southerncare Hospice Vigil team steps in to provide comfort in the last hours, simply by being present, playing music or even reading. Once the clinical staff has ensured that patients are comfortable, volunteers are the caring, compassionate companions who offer extra support to the patients and their families during the time of transition. Our current team of Vigil Volunteers share their stories of spending a few hours with patients who are transitioned and are near death. The Vigil experience is a calm and peaceful one that brings comfort to families as well as the patients (especially to those who have no families) To learn more about the Vigil Volunteer Team, plan to attend an orientation. Orientations are held monthly, or we can meet at a time/location convenient for you. Email or call for more information. Southerncare Hospice in Akron provides care to Stark, Summit, Portage and median counties. This is very meaningful to the families to have someone there and be present while their loved ones are passing. I gives the families a break from being a caregiver. Also right now we are looking for individuals who are willing to put baskets together for families who have loved ones at the end of life and deliver them to the families, if anyone is interested please let me know this is very important and also very rewarding as well. Don't hesitate to reach out to me!!!!!!!!!
