Mission Statement

STEM Partners Washington was created to support the Olympia Robotics Federation, a high school robotics team which promotes creativity, leadership and hands-on learning through teamwork and application of technology. We also work closely with partners in our community to build support for STEM education.

Description

The Olympia Robotics Federation is a highly-successful robotics team that combines students from three high schools in Olympia Washington. We

  • Provide hands-on experience with technology and manufacturing as well as business and communications skills
  • Encourage "gracious professionalism" which involves cooperation and sharing of expertise as well as competition experience
  • Encourage students to make contact with the community along several dimensions (businesses, service organizations, governmental organizations) in order to communicate the benefits of STEM robotic
ORF was founded in 2012 and participates every year in competitions organized by FIRST (for inspiration and recognition of science and technology) which is a US-based international organization. Every year we build a new robot to meet a specific set of challenges and compete with other teams' robots on a playing field.

We compete in two district events and have moved on to the District Championships in every year except one. We have been to the World Championships three times. We have won multiple awards in engineering, spirit, safety, and entrepreneurship.

We have overcome the effects of COVID-19 which kept us out of physical competitions for two years. However we were able to maintain our skills and build the team back up this year to 20 members. We have a team of seven mentors including three teacher/coaches and four community volunteers who share the mentoring tasks.
