BCA’s mission is to develop independent lifelong learners through a content rich Classical Education in the liberal arts and sciences, focusing on the importance of individual accountability, integrity, and the respect for citizenship in our country in order to understand and defend the principles that were used to found America and to see the beauty in truth in our world.
BCA will provide Classical Education in the liberal arts, sciences and fine arts which is rooted in human nature and has a rich and recurring examination of the American literary, moral, philosophical, political, and historical traditions. BCA will be a K-12 charter school located in Manatee County and affiliated with the Hillsdale College Barney Initiative, which focuses on the classical tradition of study in liberal arts education including history, literature, fine arts, and philosophy. The culture is one that instills in each individual scholar a love of learning that develops him or her into a lifelong independent learner, whether he or she will be going to college or preparing in other ways to be a productive and responsible citizen. We will instill the respect for self-accountability, personal integrity, humility, self-esteem, self-control, kindness and respect for civic responsibility. Scholars will understand the need to use their critical thinking skills to make moral decisions in their community. They will learn they can make positive societal changes rather than let others decide their fate. Scholars will be able to pursue truths and see the goodness and beauty of our country and world.
