Mercy Medical Center welcomes pet therapy teams to provide caring and uplifting interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues. Teams must have a pet therapy certification to apply. The canine must be at least 1 year of age. Pet Therapy volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, in overall good health and maintain an appropriate level of cleanliness, calmness, and the ability to take direction. Must have a genuine concern for those confined to institutions and act in a caring, responsible, manner towards both the patients and hospital colleagues. Good communication and listening skills are key to success in this role. Volunteer Services will work with pet owners to determine the best placement for volunteer shifts based on interest, availability, and comfort level of the team. Options for placement include: Hospital inpatient units Rehabilitation inpatient unit Physician offices in the community Available shifts - 7 days a week and can start as early as 8:00 a.m. and end as late as 4:00 p.m. (we will work with your availability).

Volunteer opportunity to assist in the Emergency Department (ED) at Mercy Medical Center. In this role, the volunteer will greet, and direct patients and visitors coming to the ED and assist staff in the patient areas with various requests. Must be 18 years old or older. Some of the duties would include: When an inquiry is made of specific patients, check location of patient and provide escort to the area Make periodic rounds through waiting room, check availability of wheelchairs and clean after each use Keep waiting room in order (rearrange chairs, straighten magazines and pamphlets) Transport patients and visitors to designated areas as directed by ED staff Escort visitors to other areas of the hospital as directed by the ED staff (surgery waiting room area, cafeteria, etc.) Assist ED personal as requested. (do not perform 'hands on’ care) Restock supplies, tissues, hand sanitizer, wipes as necessary Visit with patients to offer comfort (warm blankets, pillows, conversation, etc.) Clean and make up stretchers, straighten and stock exam rooms Move empty stretchers Available shifts - any 3 or 4 hour shifts once a week. Shifts can be anytime between 10 am - 4 pm (we will work with your availability).

As a Cancer Center Greeter volunteer at Mercy Medical Center, you will have the opportunity to assist and welcome patients and visitors at the Cancer Center entrance. This volunteer will greet and direct patients to the various areas of the cancer center as well as other departments within the hospital. Duties include: * Greet visitors and patients * Direct/escort patients to destination * Provide wheelchairs for patients * Transport individuals to destination as needed * Communicate with various departments within the hospital Available shifts - any 4-hour or 8-hour shifts once a week (8 a.m. -12 noon,12 noon - 4 p.m. or 8 .m. - 4 p.m.) (will also work with your availability). A minimum commitment of at least 6 months or 100 hours. If interested, an interview would be set up through the Volunteer Services Department.

Must be 18 years old or older. In this role, the duties would include: Greeting visitors, patients, vendors, etc. and direct/escort to destination Transport individuals to destination as needed Use external hospital map to clarify directions to surrounding hospital buildings Communicating with various departments within the hospital Provide clerical support as needed Available shifts - 4 hour shifts once a week (will work with your availability). As a comfort care cart volunteer at Mercy Medical Center, you will visit with patients in their hospital rooms. As patients begin to settle in for bed, this comfort care cart is stocked with 'comfort items’ - such as eye masks, ear plugs, headsets, lip balm, blankets, word searches, etc. We offer patients a wash cloth to wash their face before settling in for bed as well as offering to clean their eye glasses. Available shifts - any 3-4 hour shift once a week between 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (will work with your availability). A minimum commitment of at least 6 months or 100 hours. If interested, an interview would be set up through the Volunteer Services Department.
