QUICK OVERVIEW Join us for Community Volunteer Days at the garden from 9 am to noon on the first Saturday of the month (unless it's a holiday). Help us maintain and beautify our garden. Activities include mulching, weeding, clearing pathways, organizing, watering + lots of other fun things! Everyone welcome! We love to host students earning community service hours. This is a family-friendly event. Light refreshments are provided. No skills are needed. MISSION The Emerson Avenue Community Garden is a group of enthusiastic volunteers dedicated to developing and maintaining one acre of a sustainable, organic food garden and green space for educational purposes and community enjoyment. The community garden resides in the friendly neighborhood of Westchester within the Orville Wright Middle School campus at the southwest corner of Emerson Avenue and 80th Place. IMPACT Community gardens are a vital cog in the machinery of healthy, vibrant neighborhoods. They provide a tangible and hopeful sign of renewal, and the potential for growth given the right mix of intention, energy, and nurturing. The garden is a continuous, ongoing project that depends on the combined efforts of its members and volunteers. Its success relies on community involvement. EACGC provides educational activities in gardening and food preservation, such as Seed Saving with Girl Scouts, Gardening for Orville Wright students, Canning, Beekeeping, Soil Testing, Cover Crops for Soil Building, Composting, Edible Landscaping, Grow LA Victory Garden Initiative Classes, and more. EACGC sponsors and participates in many community events, including the parade on July 4th, and WAM Block Party, VOLUNTEER ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Help us maintain and beautify our garden. Activities include mulching, weeding, clearing pathways, organizing, and watering lots of other fun things! REQUIREMENTS Feel to bring your gloves, but we have gloves to share. Under age 14 requires adult supervision unless pre-approved. **No registration is necessary. ** ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This garden is for YOU. Come and enjoy it! ACCESSIBILITY In a recent partnership with the Westchester Rotary, EACGC completed accessibility pathways.
