Mission Statement

Our Mission To take care of patients as if you or your loved one is the patient. To enhance humanism and offer solutions for caregivers. Our Vision To support design of an inclusive healthcare system in which each person is treated as if the Patient is U (or a beloved family member) at all levels & in all encounters. Our Values Put patients’ and families’ concerns first Honor the trust patients & families place in health care providers Commit to honest engagement between providers, patients, & families As providers, be thorough in our work, devoted to our profession, & available to our patients Collaborate with respect & share information with the care team, patients, & families Compassionate care is every patient’s right Ensure that compassionate care makes a meaningful, measurable difference in outcomes We believe that compassionate care is every patient’s right and that it promotes health equity & social justice.

The Patient is U is a Connecticut non-profit organization whose mission to improve the level of compassionate care in the healthcare system, empower caregivers and patients to expect compassionate care & support, improve the patient experience & personalize the patient-provider relationship.

Compassionate care improves patient outcomes by increasing patient satisfaction, fostering better communication & increasing the likelihood of patient adherence to prescribed treatments & medication regimes. Compassion results in better quality care & drives down health care costs as improved outcomes reduce complications. Additionally, a more personal patient-provider relationship decreases the likelihood of medical malpractice claims. TPIU believes that compassionate care is not limited to the patient’s interaction with doctors and nurses, but extends to every interaction in the patient journey, from the initial phone call with the receptionist to the conversation with the outgoing parking lot attendant.
