Different services a volunteer may offer is respite sitting, vigil, reading/letter writing, friendly visits, companionate, emotional support, and family support. As a hospice volunteer you can make an ever lasting impact on our patient's and their families’ lives. Hospice volunteer visits may include but are not limited to, playing games, painting nails, enjoying a leisurely stroll around the nursing home/assisted-living or engaging in a lively conversations. There are also times when hospice companions may simply sit quietly while holding one's hand, letting the patient know that he or she is not alone. This is a beautiful opportunity to form connections with others while making an ever lasting impact on one’s life. Hospice volunteer hours are flexible and opportunities are scheduled around volunteer availability, location, and patient needs. Hospice volunteer will receive training regarding the philosophy of hospice, the role of the volunteer and other staff members, as well as, helpful skills in caring for and communicating with hospice patients and their families. Volunteer and patient safety are our top priority. We follow CDC guidelines & respect the Covid-19 protocols of our partner facilities. At this time, volunteers are asked to complete a self-screening checklist prior to visits, wear a mask during visits and, of course, adhere to standard precautions, such as frequent handwashing. Generations Hospice will provide the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure safe practices can be followed.
