Mission Statement

The Fish, Wildlife, and Outdoor Recreation Program at Avon Park Air Force Range will protect, restore, and maintain fish and wildlife populations and provide a range of outdoor recreational opportunities for military personnel and the public in support of the military mission. Fish, wildlife, and outdoor recreation resources will be managed to support the military mission through an ecologically appropriate and inter-disciplinary approach that is consistent with Department of Defense principles for ecosystem management and biodiversity conservation.

Description

The Avon Park Air Force Range is a 106,000 acre military training facility located in Polk & Highlands Counties in south-central Florida. The Outdoor Recreation Program works in coordination with the U.S. Air Force to provide recreational opportunities to military personnel and the general public.

Avon Park AFR is known as a world-class destination for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, birding, and outdoor recreational opportunities for all ages.

Volunteers are mainly needed from late August until late April, in conjunction with the hunting seasons. Full-time volunteers (who work a minimum of 24 hours a week, per person) have access to our Volunteer Village - a RV campground with full hook-ups, laundry facilities, and wi-fi.
