Mission Statement
CAPS works to formulate and advance policies and programs designed to stabilize the population of California at a level which will preserve a good quality of life for all Californians,
Description
CAPS' vision for protecting California's environment and quality of life is supported by our dedication to turning the tide of population growth. This is a vision shared by the majority of Californians who, when polled, invariably support environmental protection, family planning and a moratorium on immigration.
CAPS' members regularly support the organization with yearly membership dues. Additional support comes from foundation grants for various projects. Our members, who come from many different ethnic origins, recognize the need to stabilize California's population and work together to support that end. Immigration is just one aspect of the population problem in California. California's unchecked, high-growth rates are due to high fertility rates as well as high immigration rates. Our goals for 2002 address these issues by:
** Influencing legislation and social attitudes, in order to reduce California's birth rate, immigration rate, and loss of wildlife habitat and prime agricultural land;
** Increasing media attention to overpopulation as a social, environmental, and economic problem to be solved;
** Making overpopulation and over-development local and state campaign issues;
** Educating local and State representatives concerning the local impact of immigration and population growth. Please visit our website at: www.capsweb.org
