EMI’s Egress Youth Diversion (EYD)’s mission is to remove youth as early in the juvenile justice process as possible to avoid later negative outcomes associated with formal processing. Our goal is to decrease the odds of recidivism, stigmatization/labeling, and increased criminal justice costs (CrimeSolutions.gov). EMI’s Egress Youth Diversion project will help participants to remain in their homes with family ,receive self actualization opportunities, as well as educational enrichment. When age appropriate, the program will provide opportunities for vocational progression as a young community member and reduce the risk of joblessness that comes with youth incarceration, thereby reducing poverty.
Our current non- profit staff came together to organize Emerge Ministries International, as a nonprofit agency to reduce poverty, educate, and produce sustainability for the families we serve as well as our organization. We were able to incorporate EMI, with the state of new Mexico, and to attain tax exempt status. Along with having a 501 3c (EIN)
