At Star City, we offer a variety of program opportunities for our volunteers. Our volunteer programs include providing companionship in a patient’s home, honoring our veterans, 11 th miracle all-stars, office support, and we are unveiling our latest program, Legacy Project. This unique program will incorporate any person with craftmanship skills. Anyone with craft skills like sewing, painting, crafting, or minor wood working would certainly benefit in the heart felt reward that this program offers. Star City likes to provide activity blankets, quilts, special keep sakes and more to patients and their families. Come join us in supporting our patients by creating a blanket to wrap someone with love or help us create a lasting memento that our bereavement team can provide to families. All our volunteers must pass a background check and will receive a general hospice volunteer orientation prior to starting.

Virtual Opportunity
At Star City Hospice, we take our mission of providing the very best care to our patients and families with increased bedside presence, being with the patient and family when they need us, and anticipating changes in care and education along the way very seriously. We are always exploring creative opportunities that will reduce the stress that end of life care can sometimes bring. Led by our Star City Hospice Volunteer Department, our Tuck-In Program is designed to ensure that each of our patients, families, and caregivers receive a friendly call once a week. A specially trained volunteer will call on Thursday, between the hours of 9:00am and 11:00am to check on supplies, medications, and equipment. Our Tuck-In Program will help with anticipating patient, family, and caregiver needs and filing an requests will relieve anxiety that you might have regarding medications, supplies, or equipment required over a weekend. If a patient/family need is identified that was not previously addressed during the patients nursing visit, our volunteer will relay the information immediately to the nurse or Manager for assistance. This is a great opportunity for Volunteers that desire indirect contact with patients. A general hospice orientation will be provided prior to all our volunteers prior to contact with our patients. For additional information about our Tuck-In Program contact us at 469-529-2954 and ask to speak with the Volunteer Coordinator.

"The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scar of war," Douglas MacArthur. Every person experiences end of life differently. A veteran’s military service can add a distinct dimension to the level of physical, emotional and spiritual support he or she needs. Deep-rooted memories of combat may manifest in different ways and often are recounted as a veteran faces his own mortality. In addition to making sure that our military patients and their military families facing a life limiting illness receive the additional care, we are looking for volunteers that have previously served our country to further honor our service men and women in ceremony. We offer two different ceremonies based on the preference of those who have served, a formal and informal. We want to give an opportunity for each veteran to share part of his or her story and be recognized. By doing so, a sense of meaning and purpose can be gained by the Veteran. We need active and inactive military to attend these ceremonies to provide comfort in presence. Most importantly, we are actively seeking those who have been in the military to assist us in performing the final salute and pinning as our former service men and women near the end of life. All Veteran Volunteers to complete a general volunteer orientation prior to having contact with patients. For additional information, please contact 469-529-2954, and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator.

Star City hospice was founded on the many principles one being that when someone is within their final hours that no one will be alone. The basic value of hospice care is that no one should die alone without the support or the presence of loved ones. Eleventh-hour All-stars are a group of elite trained volunteers that keep vigil and provide that supportive presence to patient and families in their most vulnerable precious final hours of life. Often, patients find themselves alone during their last day because they have limited or no family close-by. All-stars are able to fill in when a loved one cannot or when family members need a break or support for themselves during this time by offering warmth, compassion, concern, and a healing touch. Simply offering gestures like sitting with the patient and/or family, holdings hands, praying, or sharing in silence makes a world of difference during such a difficult time. This unique service is offered around the clock and it does not matter the location- in private houses, assisted living facilities, or group homes- our All-stars will be there. For additional information, please contact 469-529-2954 and ask to speak with the Volunteer Coordinator.
