With spring in the air, what a great time to bring a smile to those who really need it! That is why Heartland Hospice is looking for compassionate people to join our volunteer team to become a friendly volunteer. As a friendly volunteer, you will be connected to one of our wonderful patients in YOUR area to visit and provide companionship in their home or facility. Some ways you can do that is: Holding their hand Share a story Listen to their story Read a book, newspaper, magazine Singing Doing small crafts or puzzles Phone calls to say hello Phone calls for reminders and so much more We are very understanding and flexible with your schedule. You can visit once a week, twice a month or whatever works best for you. There is no experience needed. We will provide all the training you need at no cost to you. We love our volunteers here at Heartland Hospice and appreciate all that they do. If you are organized, kind, flexible, multitasker and love to be in an office environment, then we would love for you to join our team here in our Kettering office. Some areas that are in need of assistance is answering phones, making phone calls, mailings, filing, copying, putting together packets and helping with special projects. The best part is that we are very flexible with scheduling. We will work with you to find the best schedule that works for you. You can come in once a week to a couple times a week for an hour or two. Again, we will work with you. Heartland Hospice is looking for Vigil Volunteers. What does it mean to be a "Vigil Volunteer?" You will be providing a calm, quiet and supportive presence at a patient's bedside as they are in their final days or hours of their life. We want to make sure that our patients are not alone during those hours, and we provide that additional support for their caregivers. Being a vigil volunteer is an as needed position and at times can be a last-minute need. The duration of these visits also could last for a couple of hours. Most vigil volunteer choose also to be a friendly volunteer. A friendly volunteer is someone who visits a patient tp provide companionship and emotional support. They can sit with them, share stories, read the newspaper/books, play games, do crafts or simply hold their hand. This is not a requirement to become a vigil volunteer. Vigil volunteers go through additional training. Experience and/or knowledge of Hospice is helpful.
