The purpose of the Open Door Food Pantry (ODFP) is to provide a 3- to 5-day supply of emergency food to needy families and individuals from the Hamilton/Butler County area. We do not require proof of income or employment -- only proof of Butler County residence, whether that be a drivers' license, a signed lease or a recently received utility bill. We assist our clients in selecting foods their family enjoys, We strive to make our pantry a safe, welcoming non-judgmental place.
The Open Door Food Pantry (ODFP) has been in operation since February 2, 1981.It was founded by a group of Hamilton citizens concerned about hunger in their community. Since 1985, it has been located at 800 South Front Street in a low income, racially mixed neighborhood with a high unemployment rate. The Pantry operates with a paid part-time director and the assistance of volunteers from churches, schools, businesses and the community.
The ODFP has been managed by only four directors during its 39 years in operation. Our current director, Michael Reardon, has been with us since Spring 2016.
An unpaid Board of Directors with seven members advises the Director and provides direct planning and operational support through three committees - Operations, Building and Equipment and Resources. The members of these committees, along with the Director and a few volunteers, conduct the daily operation of the ODFP including client management, food acquisition and distribution, maintenance of the building and equipment and fundraising.
