Description

I hope you are well and thank you for being interested in volunteering with Liberty Hospice! I would love to tell you more! We are always looking for caring volunteers to visit our hospice patients. Our office covers the Sanford and Siler City areas. Some of our hospice patients live in a facility where staff is taking care of them and some live at home with their family taking care of them. All of our volunteers have to go through a training process that is online as well as a drug screen, background check and Covid screening. Once all this is clear and complete, I then match you with a hospice patient. We like the volunteers to visit their patient once a week so you really get to know them and they get to trust and know you as well! Volunteers do not provide any personal care like bathing but rather socialization and companionship by talking with them, doing life review, looking at photos or magazines, going outside for a breath of fresh air, doing crafts, or whatever the patient is capable of doing. Volunteers are also able to provide respite for our hospice families for short periods of time so they can have a break from their role of caregiver. Please let me know if this all sounds good and I would love to then talk with you more and set up a time to meet! Thanks so much and I hope to hear from you very soon!

My name is Christopher Rice, I currently volunteer for Liberty Hospice. I have been volunteering since September of last year. I find volunteering to be a very rewarding as well as uplifting experience. Just the thought of caring for someone without expecting anything in return is a blessing. In life as you grow-up you are being cared for and nurtured, and now with this experience it allows me to pay it forward. In the world today we lack empathy & caring of not just our youth but our Elders, so I embrace this opportunity to connect with the people I encounter and give them a sense of happiness, peace, companionship, and joy for however amount of time necessary. During my time volunteering I have had 4 individuals and they have all been beyond wonderful. Of course, they have good days & bad but the joy in their faces when they see us says it all. I look forward to many more volunteer days ahead and hope that others will reach out and embrace this journey as well.
