Hospice does not shorten or prolong life. Hospice focuses on comfort not on curing an illness. When a cure is no longer possible, hospice recognizes that a peaceful and comfortable death becomes the essential goal of healthcare. Hospice recognizes that death is in integral part of the life cycleand that intensive palliative care focus of pain relief, comfort, and enhanced quality of life as appropriate goals for the terminally ill.
