The Appalachia Georgia Friends of the Bears’ mission is to reduce Human - Bear conflict through proactive educational outreach programs, increasing public awareness about coexisting with Black Bears, the use of humane bear deterrents, and advocacy.
Description
The Appalachia Georgia Friends of the Bears, Inc was founded on June 03, 2019. We want to reduce Human - Bear conflict through proactive educational outreach programs, increasing public awareness about coexisting with Black Bears, the use of humane bear deterrents, and advocacy.
2021 Year to date, key accomplishments
- Generated over 2,000 volunteer hours (labor equivalent of $85,941)
- Nearly 3,000 miles driven
- Distributed over 7,000 educational brochures, 4,000 children's placemats, 3,000 door hangers, several thousand BearWise(r) bulletins to key target audiences
- Over 1,600 individual briefings
- Developed & deployed a digital marketing campaign
- Reached nearly 30K people through specific targeting in high - risk human - bear conflict neighborhoods
