Mission Statement

KT's Kids strives to help children and youth with disabilities that come from some of the most under-resourced communities in Chicago. We believe that all children should have access to fun and recreation, and we aim to provide them with opportunities to enjoy their city. We believe that all children should have the opportunity to fully participate in typical childhood activities, regardless of their level of ability.

Description

Community and Recreation Events for Children with Disabilities:
KT’s Kids provides field trip opportunities throughout the year. We have watched the Chicago Bulls, played wheelchair basketball at Mt. Carmel, visited Siegel’s Pumpkin Farm, climbed the wall at Maggie Daley Park, kayaked at Montrose Beach and more.

Summer Camps:
C.A.M.P. (Children with Adapted Mobility Play) Schwab is the only free summer day camp for kids with disabilities in Cook County. We provide camp for almost forty kids, aged 7-18, including transportation, activities, and a closing picnic to celebrate. C.A.M.P. Schwab brings kids outside to play on their own terms, and that’s hugely empowering.

Holiday Programming:
Each holiday season, we invite all of the children in households with kids being treated at Schwab Rehab to celebrate with us. At the Holiday Party, every child gets two gifts (one fun, one practical), and each family gets a $20 Target gift card. Last year we hosted over 600 kids.
