The Board Member will support the work of Victory College Prep and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. Each trustee is responsible for actively participating in the work of Victory College Prep Board of Trustees, and the life of the organization. The expectations of trustees are outlined below. The Board will nominate a candidate only after they have agreed to fulfill these expectations: LEADERSHIP, GOVERNANCE AND OVERSIGHT Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director (ED) as he/she develops and implements Victory College Prep strategic plan. Work in good faith with fellow Board Members to fulfill the obligations of Board Membership and achieve our goals. Prepare for Board and Committee meetings by carefully reviewing materials in the packet in advance and bringing necessary materials to meetings. Approving annual budget, audit reports and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities. Actively serve on a minimum of one committee. Participate in task forces and special assignments. Be familiar with the bylaws. ATTENDANCE Regularly attend Board Meetings in accordance with the absenteeism policy by attending a minimum of 75% of the Board Meetings, Board Trainings and scheduled conference calls. If unable to attend a Board Member may be permitted to participate remotely with prior permission of the Board Chair. If unable to attend in person or remotely, the Board Chair should be notified prior to 12pm the day of the meeting. If a member is absent for two "non-notified" consecutive meetings, or three "notified" consecutive meetings, they may be removed. Attend all special activities of the Board, including fundraising events and other Board Events or Retreats as they are scheduled. FUNDRAISING Board Members will consider Victory College Prep a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. Participate in setting fundraising goals, planning any events, and attending such events. COMMUNITY OUTREACH Represent Victory College Prep to stakeholders; act as an ambassador for the organization. Assist in the identifying and recruitment of other Board Members to ensure a diverse board that reflects the community VCP serves. Promote the mission, goals, and objectives of Victory College Prep to increase public awareness, understanding and support of the organization by establishing relationships with local and state level authorizers, business communities and elected officials. Assist in the recruitment of volunteers and committee members to augment the Board. EVALUATION/ASSESMENTS Participate in an honest appraisal of one’s own performance and that of the Board. Participate in evaluations of the Board, ED, Principal, and Victory College Prep. The Board assesses the success of the school with respect to its mission and vision, its educational program, student achievement, parent satisfaction and other indicators of school success. VOLUNTEERISM Participates in student recruitment as needed. Attend at least one school event each year.
