Healthy early child development, which includes physical, social/emotional, and linguistic/cognitive development (each equally important), strongly affects mental and physical health, literacy and numeracy skills, and life success. We have some students who could really benefit from having a best friend with them in the classroom. Best friends help give them the attention they need and help teach valuable life, educational, social, and emotional skills. We are looking for volunteers able to help out for 3-8 hour shifts 2+ times a week. Schedules are flexible. We are a local 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization also known as Mountainland Head Start, Inc. providing high-quality services since 1978. We are a single-purpose entity, meaning our services are uniquely targeted to the early childhood field. We have a long established record of serving children who face barriers to success and their families in Utah, Wasatch and Juab counties in the state of Utah for over 40 years. We currently have a high need for bilingual volunteers to help with translation services. Many of our families speak a second language at home and we know the best way to communicate about their child's progress and barriers that they are currently facing is communicating in their home language. We are especially in need of individuals with Portuguese, and Spanish translating skills! You would have the opportunity to sign up for shifts when Family Advocates need to meet with the family about their child's progress or when we are assessing our students progress all throughout the school year. You would also be able to help at events, and in the classroom! Volunteering locations could be located in Utah, Wasatch, and Juab counties. The need is now!
