Help cook and package meals for the food-insecure in NYC

EVLoves NYC (https://www.evloves.nyc/) is an amazing non-profit organization that serves our food-insecure neighbors. We cook and package meals every week to distribute to groups around the city. Lots of meals. Upwards of 2000 meals every Sunday. We are always looking for volunteers to join our team. Working here seems to appeal to a wide variety of people - students, artists, musicians, writers, bartenders, and lawyers. There are lots of East Village locals but people travel from all over the city to work with us every week. It's fun, noisy (we often have a DJ!), and rewarding. Each Sunday morning, we get together on the ground floor of a community center on East 6th Street. The teams who do prep and cooking start at 9:00; those of us who get the food into packages and boxes start at 12:00; the clean-up crew starts around 2:30. Beginning at about 1pm, bikes, cars and trucks start arriving to pick up the boxes and distribute our meals to people and community refrigerators throughout the five boroughs. It's pretty cool and very volunteer-dependent. Recently, we've also been collecting food and supplies for the asylum seekers who've been coming to New York, so some of the volunteers are sorting clothes and shoes, creating care packages and helping with distribution at the community center where we work. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old and must be fully vaccinated. Health department requirements for people working with hot food include wearing closed-toe shoes (no sandals), a hat or scarf to cover your hair, long pants, and a shirt with sleeves. Thanks!

EVLoves LLC is dedicated to the charitable production and distribution of meals to relieve the hunger of New York City families and individuals experiencing food insecurity.

Description

We started our volunteer run organization in the first few weeks of the pandemic when we learned how much food insecurity had dramatically increased in our city. We get together every Sunday to cook delicious and nutritious meals, and package groceries. Our East Village based kitchen is a very welcoming environment and a place where you can contribute to helping some of the most challenged populations of NYC. We can’t wait to welcome you there!
