Mission Statement

BDPNN works to equitably support Berkeley neighborhoods and individuals who live or work in Berkeley to respond to large-scale emergencies. We do this through coalition building, bringing in outside expertise, and sharing experiences. BDPNN also oversees Berkeley Mutual Aid (www.berkeleymutualaid.org), providing an infrastructure so those needing help can be matched with those who need help.

Description

The Berkeley Disaster Preparedness Neighborhood Network (BDPNN) - also known as "The Network" - is an all-volunteer organization formed in 2009 by neighborhood leaders to address the gap between the training and support capabilities of the City of Berkeley and the needs of neighborhoods preparing for and responding to disasters.

Berkeley Mutual Aid is a grassroots effort that came out of the response to the COVID pandemic in March of 2020. It is an evolving effort developed by volunteers in the community to get neighborly support to where it is needed most. As this crisis evolves, our project will continue to respond and shift priorities as needed. Right now, we are focusing on helping people at higher risk from COVID-19 to help flatten the curve, and helping people who are being especially heavily impacted by COVID-19.
