Help us keep our shelves stocked with healthy to-go meals by preparing and packaging Good Meals To Go! If you love to cook and want to lend your culinary skills to a good cause, this is the volunteer role for you. The Good Meals To Go program is an effort to provide access to healthy, convenient, low-cost meal options in a neighborhood located in a food desert. Volunteers provide essential support on this by cooking fresh meals in our cafe each week. This is a great chance to share or build on your cooking skills while getting involved in our efforts to combat food insecurity in the community. Volunteer hours for this role are 2pm-5pm Monday-Saturday. To learn more or sign up to volunteer, please visit our website or reach out to jessica@hub25.org.

The Matthew 25 Tool Library is a community resource that provides easy and affordable access to a variety of tools. Our library has an extensive collection of unique hand and power tools from miter, jig and chain saws to power washers and paint sprayers. We try to have a tool for every job and more importantly, provide this service for everyone as part of our larger nonprofit efforts. Many of these tools are used for our other home repair projects with volunteer groups! We are searching for enthusiastic volunteers to help sustain this vital program, especially during open hours. This job is great for folks with strong familiarity of tools, whether you are good with people, organization or have a special talent for tinkering with tools, we are looking for all manner of help. Stock shelves for a good cause! The Cultivate Hope Corner Store is a small, nonprofit grocery store owned and operated by Matthew 25. Our vision is to make this community grocery store a vibrant space that brings neighbors together and provides a convenient location for healthy food in a food desert neighborhood. This beautifully remodeled space provides reduced-cost produce that is fresh and local, as well as other dry goods and food staples. Groundswell Cafe supplies fresh, ready-to-eat meals at the store. There is also a small seating area where we host food workshops and other community-building events. We rely on volunteers for support with various projects and tasks, including stocking shelves, unloading produce trucks, preparing and serving lunch, and helping customers. This is a great way to share your skills and passion for healthy food, while getting to know community members and helping to expand access to healthy, affordable foods in our community. Volunteer shifts are available Monday - Saturday. To learn more or sign up to volunteer, please visit our website or reach out to jessica@hub25.org.

At Groundswell Cafe, we strive to provide a place where everyone has access to fresh, healthy food, regardless of their ability to pay. Through a pay-it-forward model, any "tips" or donations received from guests are deposited into a fund that is then used to provide free or reduced-cost meals for those who are struggling. Groundswell Cafe emphasizes local, healthy food, with as many of the ingredients as possible supplied by what Matthew 25 grows less than a mile away at the Cultivate Hope Urban Farm, and the rest is sourced from local and organic suppliers. Through the help of volunteers and generous supporters, our cafe serves over 100 free or "pay-it-forward" meals each week to community members struggling with food insecurity. The cafe offers dine-in, take-out and catering orders. Learn more at: www.GroundswellCafe.org. Groundswell is an initiative of local nonprofit Matthew 25 and is located next to the Matthew 25 office at 201 Third Ave, SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404. Groundswell Cafe is successful in large part because of great volunteers that help with baking, serving food, hospitality, busing tables, washing dishes and more. We rely greatly on volunteer support to staff this program on an ongoing basis and continue to provide this vital resource for our community. If you're looking for a way to help address community food insecurity, please consider a weekly volunteer role with Groundswell Cafe.
