Hospice care is an approach that promotes comfort (i.e. relief of pain and uncomfortable symptoms) instead of curative care. The emphasis of the hospice program is on keeping the patient at home with family and friends with the best quality of life possible. The patient, family, and caregivers are treated as one unit of care.
The Hospice team works closely with the patient, family, and caregivers to ensure comfort measures for pain / symptom control, emotional, and spiritual support.
