Mission Statement
Friends of Oakland Animal Services is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization formed by shelter volunteers in 2005, to fund critical services for thousands of animals every year that enter the Oakland city shelter. Our mission is to provide homes, health, and happiness to Oakland’s homeless animals.
Description
Oakland Animal Services (OAS) provides care for every animal brought to its door, regardless of age, breed, temperament, or medical condition. OAS is Oakland’s only "open admissions" shelter, and takes in thousands of homeless, lost, neglected, and abused animals every year. Some have traumatic histories; some have suffered terrible injuries. The shelter provides care to them all, knowing that every being-not just the cutest ones with the best chance at adoption-deserves respect, compassion, and dignity.
OAS does not receive sufficient funding in the City budget to provide for all of the needs of our shelter animals. Donations to Friends of Oakland Animal Services fund critical services for thousands of animals every year in the face of Oakland’s ongoing budgetary challenges.
