Mission Statement

African Americans On the Move Book Club, Inc., founded by Tamika Newhouse, is to develop interactive literacy-based programs centered around African American books and those who write them. We advocate for literary arts, literacy, and bridging the gap for black writers and opportunities. Our premier annual events; the AAMBC Literary Awards and Black Writers Weekend, bridges the gaps between black literary creatives and opportunities that will advance their careers. Powered by AAMBC Inc., the organization focuses on new and emerging voices in literature and fusing them with established creatives in film, television, and publishing.

Description

To help push our initiative, annually we curate Black Writers Weekend, a literary arts festival that gathers African American writers and culture lovers who share the common likeness and appreciation for reading Black books, watching Black films, and immersing themselves in Black Culture.

Established in 2008 formally as the "AAMBC Literary Awards" weekend, Black Writers Weekend is now a four-day weekend gathering in Atlanta. Attendees experience a multitude of events such as panels, workshops, a collective book signing featuring dozens of writers, and talk series with film stars and producers. This weekend was designed to provide a safe place and platform for Creatives to expose their stories to new audiences," Tamika Newhouse says. "We wanted this to be a true celebration of literary achievement in every way imaginable."
