Mission Statement
Since 1988, Sunburst Projects has helped to improve the lives of hundreds of HIV/AIDS children and family members who are unable to cope with the disease alone. When HIV or AIDS enters a family, the stress can be unbearable, and families become profoundl y vulnerable. They need special services and links to local community resources to help them cope with the anxiety, stigma and isolation that accompanies this disease; ideally, before the family is propelled into crisis. Our mission is to keep families together and help them cope with the challenges of living with HIV/AIDS.
Description
Sunburst Projects provides a number of innovative family-focused support services for children and families living with HIV/AIDS. All of our services, including our summer camps, are free of charge. Camp Sunburst, our acclaimed national model summer camp program, is therapeutically designed to address the needs of the family impacted by AIDS. Camp provides a family strengthening environment, education, recreation, and emotional support. Ninety-five percent of our campers are from Northern California. Ou r residential summer camps range between 4 and 8 days long, depending on the session. For the year 2004 we are offering three camp programs: Camp Sunburst, our camp session for HIV/AIDS children ages 6-12, their siblings ages 6-12, and their parents/guardians. Camp Sunburst Teen Camp, for HIV/AIDS teens ages 13-18, and their teen siblings ages 13-18.
