Mission Statement

Mission The Coos History Museum creates a better understanding of life in Coos County and Oregon’s South Coast, past and present, and our place in that life. We do this by collecting and preserving stories, artifacts, photographs, and documents, and by helping create opportunities for people to interpret them in meaningful thought-provoking, and engaging ways.

Description

The Coos History Museum is a welcoming community gathering place and a valued regional resource. Through a variety of mediums in our museum we share intriguing human stories about Coos County and Oregon’s South Coast. We aid and encourage diverse audiences to connect with each other and with our region’s culture, histories, and heritage.
The Coos Historical Society is one of the oldest historical societies in Oregon dating back to 1891. Our new sight on Front Street, which opened in 2016, has afforded the Historical Society the opportunity to engage the community through exhibits along with our Tuesday Talks, Unlimited Book Club as well as the Explorer's Club program for children.
