Mission Statement
Our museum is dedicated to honoring the life and preserving the legacy of the greatest natural hitter to ever play the game of baseball. Through the research, collection and display of many original artifacts, photos, and countless books in our on-site research library, we provide comprehensive context for Joe's place in baseball history. In addition to dispelling myths and educating the public about the truth of Joe's life and career, our mission is to be an active, contributing member within our local communities, continuing to grow the game of baseball for generations to come.
Description
The museum opened its doors in 2008, after moving Joe Jackson's house from its original location. Our hands-on exhibits, artifacts and photos vividly tell the story of Shoeless Joe Jackson, life in the mill villages and the Textile Mill League. Our photo displays include century-old images fully restored, some now colorized for the first time ever, bringing Joe and his times into sharp focus. Continuing Joe's tradition, our goal is to raise up the surrounding community, encouraging and supporting literacy to give others the leg up Joe never had, and to work toward refurbishing ball fields in nearby underserved areas to promote teamwork, sportsmanship and fitness.
