Overview As an Administrative Intern for Ape Action Africa you will apply your skills in organization, logistics and data entry to benefit one of the most established conservation sanctuaries on the African continent. Though this is a full-time office position - and you will not be working directly with any of our rescued primates - you will be safely sharing the rainforest with rescued gorillas, chimpanzees and monkeys. This position reports to the Assistant Manager. This is a one-year internship, suitable for building experience in the conservation sector or simply serving wildlife. There is neither a fee from, nor salary for, the successful candidate. AAA will provide food and housing, a letter of invitation, and one round-trip airfare. You will be responsible for any necessary vaccinations, visas, trip and evacuation insurance, and required anti-malarial medication. Details Main Responsibilities: Staff Salaries - More than 50 staff depend on their monthy pay being accurate. As the Admin Intern you will enter the data from the hand-written forms provided by the various team leaders into a payroll system. Attendance, overtime, time off (conge and permissions), Sundays, holidays, etc. all need to be accurately entered and monitored in a timely manner. Market Lists - AAA is a multi-faceted operation. Daily provision runs pick up a wide range of necessary materials. This position will consolidate lists from the kitchen and the controller, the veterinary clinic and the nursery, community officers and management. You will also provide cash funds for each day’s purchases, verify purchases and receipts, balance the cash at the end of each day, and provide the Director with a weekly summary of cash expenditures. Visitor Center - The Education Officers will greet tour guests, take care of their fees and any purchases they make in the gift shop, and conduct their tours of the Park. As Admin Intern, you will check sales records, fees and receipts, check stock and balance cash daily. VIP Logistics - As requested by the Director, to organize logistics for visits by board members, partners, researchers, media teams, government officials; including airport runs, accommodations, government correspondence, etc. Business writing - As requested by the Director or the Assistant Manager, to draft letters, reports, emails and other correspondence as needed. Environmentals: Ape Action Africa is located in the Mefou Park in the Centre province of Cameroon, on the west coast of Africa. Part of the tropical Congo Basin, the heat and humidity have produced beautiful, dense rainforest. The rescued primates at Ape Action Africa live in lush, safe habitats. Accommodations are basic and may be shared; they are without running water, but with mosquito netting on windows, and evening electricity while the generators recharge the solar backups. Internet/email access in the office during working hours. Deep wells provide clean, clear drinking water. Meals are essentially vegetarian, with eggs also available. Requirements: ~ Minimum age of 21 ~ French/English, Word and Excel competency ~ Attention to detail and accuracy; excellent organization skills ~ Flexibility to live in rural Africa, to become accustomed to a new currency and culture, to limited phone and internet access. ***end***
