Mission Statement

The mission of NAMI South Bay (South Bay Alliance for the Mentally Ill) is to support, educate and advocate for persons with a mental illness and their families by providing support groups, educational programs, presentations about mental illness and by advocating for policies and legislation at the local, state and national levels.

Description

NAMI South Bay has been providing programs, support groups and presentations, and advocating since the early 1980s. NAMI South Bay services the traditionally identified South Bay of Los Angeles County. It has provided programs and groups at no cost to thousands of family members and persons with a mental illness. It collaborates with other non-profits, churches and government organizations addressing mental health needs in the South Bay. It has been active in advocating for legislation and policies to fight the stigma surrounding mental illness, lack of services and the fighting for mental health parity in health insurance.
