Above-grade-level kids are often overlooked for additional mentoring and assistance beyond the gifted program. Not because of anything wrong with the schools or the gifted program. Above grade average kids are often perceived as not needing extra help.
Above-grade-level kids should get extra attention, just as better athletes get extra attention with more coaching, more playing time when they are noticed.
