Mission Statement

The mission of Friends of Five Rivers is to support environmental education at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center as well as to enhance the experience of visitors to Five Rivers and to promote the interests of the Center. Five Rivers is a citizens’ support group supporting Five Rivers Environmental Education Center in Delmar, New York. Friends was incorporated as Five Rivers Limited in 1972 when the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation converted the Delmar Game Farm into Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. The Center and property are owned and operated by the New York Sate Department of Environmental Conservation. In partnership, the two organizations work together to provide visitors with an educational experience.

Friends of Five Rivers provides a variety of volunteer opportunities that support the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. From the friendly Center greeter at the welcome desk, to the instructor teaching a lesson to a third grade class for the Guided School Program, to special event volunteer filing orders at the Annual Birdseed Sale, or a hospitality volunteer providing refreshments at the Fall Festival - they all make up the team of volunteers with Friends of Five Rivers. Volunteers help support programs and events each day at Five Rivers. To find out more information and volunteer job descriptions go to to:
