Description

The Culpeper Humane Society is a 501(c)3, all volunteer foster home based dog/cat rescue with the vision of a no-kill community. Our mission is to reduce the shelter intake and increase the shelter outtake through innovative programs designed to support those strategies. We provide medical care and temporary homes for the dogs and cats we take in pending their placement in loving "forever homes." We also maintain comprehensive and innovative programs in Culpeper County, Virginia to rescue animals most at risk for euthanasia so that they can live happy and healthy lives. Our community programs include; Pet Pantry program designed to keep animals in loving homes, an innovative trap/neuter/release cat alliance, Unchained Canines Program, no cost/low cost spay/neuter, No cost Pitt Bull and Pit Bull mix spay/neuter program and our Care-A-Van and Support for Paws programs. In 2020 we distributed over 13,000 of free pet food, rescued 165 dogs/cats, adopted 78 dogs/cats, spay/neutered over 500 cats from feral cat colonies and supported families in need with donations towards veterinary costs and spayed/neutered 100 privately owned dogs and cats. In 2019 our President, During this time we also worked on creating our infrastructure; documenting SOPs and animal care protocols, developing a foster care manual, creating a pet pharmacy, documenting organizational structure and job descriptions and creating an internship program.
