Mission Statement

OurRoots offers transracial and transnational adoptees a supportive, fun group setting which allows them to explore their identity and adoption journeys. Our philosophy emphasizes a supportive group setting-with adult adoptees and friends of the adoptee community volunteering as positive mentors and role models.

Description

OurRoots mentors are volunteers for AdopteeBridge and have committed to one Saturday per month, for the 2019-2020 school year. They are individuals who are 21-years-old or older and are carefully screened, interviewed, and must successfully pass a background check prior to being selected as a mentor.

Mentors are adult adoptees OR friends of the adoptee community who would like to be a positive role model in the lives of young, transracial/transnational adoptees. They will participate in a group setting after having completed a volunteer application, interview, background check, and training. In addition, AdopteeBridge asks for three (3) professional references.
As an OurRoots mentor, it is expected these volunteers will be present and involved with all fellow mentors and mentees. While they are around mentees, it is expected mentors will conduct themselves in a manner which represents AdopteeBridge and our values, and to act sensible and appropriately.
