Mission Statement

Mentoring is the foundation of what we do at Mercy Street. We match Christian mentors with the public school children in West Dallas and beyond. Believing that we need to capture the hearts and minds of the children early, we make all of our matches in elementary school, 4th grade specifically, and ask that the mentor walk with their student through the 12th grade.

The Mercy Street team dreams of every young person in West Dallas having a mentor. There are over 2,500 kids in the neighborhood, so we are going to need a lot of help. We have recently extended our reach to Northeast and South Dallas.

Description

The minimum commitment for mentoring is two years and our hope is for a mentor to walk with a child for a lifetime, so it is important that we are thoughtful in our matches we make between a child and a volunteer who could potentially have a profound effect on the child's life.

We want our mentors to be as ready and equipped as possible. Relationships are all unique and intricate, but our staff is here to support the mentors in the good times and the hard times. From the very beginning, we want mentors to be as informed as possible about relational ministry in West Dallas.

We request that all potential mentors be at least 21 years of age or older, have accepted Christ at least 18 months ago, be a member or in membership process of a local church body and have no violent or drug and alcohol charges for a minimum of three years.
