We also provide networking opportunities by teaching young adults how to network and create events for them to practice their skills. Finally, we offer workshops on personal and professional development such as financial literacy, self-branding/confidence building, interviewing, resume writing, and more, so that young adults can build their knowledge, skills, and abilities to become leaders, be more positively engaged with the community and be better prepared for the real world.

Description

We are looking for mentors who are passionate about career mentoring. This means that you want to give young adults advice about their career goals which can include advice on life and the education they may need to pursue that career goal. Mentors must be from the Madison, WI area since we are a local program serving young adults in the Madison community. Mentors must also be employed (with a company or has their own business) so that mentees can have networking and job shadowing opportunities.
As a conNEXTions mentors, you will help guide, support and encourage young adults with their career aspirations as well as share insights into your own career. By sharing your own experiences and expertise, you help create awareness, build confidence, and provide opportunities and connections for young adults.
What we are looking for in a mentor:
A sincere desire to help others
Respect for younger people
Open-mindedness
Ability to identify opportunities
Active listening skills
Empathy
In addition to these basic qualities, a good mentor takes the time to get to know their mentee, understand what is important to them, takes initiative, has a willingness to learn and try new things, can motivate and inspire, and can connect their mentee to other people and resources in the community.
