Mission Statement

Aging UP is a 501(c)3 nonprofit public benefit corporation with the mission of empowering youth with experience in foster care to successfully transition into adulthood.

To accomplish this mission, we provided three pillar services to Sacramento Region youth (ages 13-19) who have had any experience in foster care. Services include: one-to-one mentoring, positive recreation, and independent living skills education.

Aging UP recruits, screens, and trains adult volunteers in strength-based, trauma-informed mentoring. We then match youth to mentor and provide support as they build a one-to-one relationship. To further help youth establish self-sufficiency, Aging UP works with experts to arrange UPshops - free independent living skills classes. Matches attend these fun, hands-on workshops with topics covering financial literacy, resume and interview skills, college and career development, healthy living, cooking, and so much more.

Description

Aging UP is recruiting mentors who have an interest in volunteering to work with youth 13 years or older. Mentors must be 22 years old or older and agree to a one-year commitment; comfortable to communicate through virtual means until social distance protocols are suspended and in-person mentoring resumes; connect with youth at least 3 times per month (phone, text, video chat, in-person - as permitted)

The first step to becoming a mentor is to attend a virtual orientation session via Zoom.
