Mission Statement

Volunteer with Voices for Children as a CASA (a Court Appointed Special Advocate). CASAs can change the trajectory of a foster child's life. They focus on an individual child's needs, working one-on-one with a child or set of siblings. They provide a source of consistency and stability, visiting with their case children at least once a month. CASAs gather information from files and reports and communicate with social workers, family members, school officials, and other professionals in the children's lives. They use this information and firsthand observations to advocate for the children's best interests in court, as well as in other aspects of their lives, such as education, health, and living arrangements.

No experience is necessary! We provide all the training you'll need, as well as a dedicated staff supervisor to partner with you on the case. With just 10-15 hours a month, you can make a difference in the life of a foster child.

Voices for Children serves children in San Diego and Riverside Counties. Volunteers select one county for their service.

Description

We have hundreds of dedicated CASAs - men and women encompassing all age groups and backgrounds. They work full-time, part-time, are retired, and are students. CASAs must be 21+ to volunteer. All CASAs make a minimum commitment of at least 18 months; their average service is 10-15 hours per month. CASAs must have at least 2 years driving experience, have a valid driver license (with no more than 2 points on their current record), and be willing to drive to a variety of locations throughout the county. Every volunteer must clear a criminal background check. Volunteers should be persistent and patient. They should also be objective and receptive to backgrounds, experiences, and individual lifestyles that are different from their own.

No experience is necessary! We provide all the training you'll need, as well as a dedicated staff supervisor to partner with you on the case. Our training, Advocate University is 35 hours of online and classroom learning and includes a courtroom observation.
