Mission Statement

The Joy of Music School is a nonprofit organization in Knoxville, Tennessee providing free music lessons and instruments to hundreds of financially disadvantaged, at-risk children and teens. All of our 100-plus teacher/mentors are volunteers.

We have provided the art and discipline of music to thousands of deserving children and teens since 1998.

The organization has a rich history filled with a variety of devoted individuals who are making a difference in young lives through music.

Music Mentoring is teaching the art and discipline of music to at-risk children and teens in a structured and trusting teacher-student relationship. Mentors provide guidance, support, and encouragement while modeling and instilling positive habits and character.

Music mentors must have a solid knowledge of music, the ability to share that with a child, and be able to commit to teach at least 1 half-hour lesson per week for an academic year.
