Mission Statement
CU One-to-One is a school based mentoring program that began 22 years ago at a Champaign Elementary School and an Urbana Middle School. C-U One to One Mentoring fosters supportive relationships between public school children and community based adults. These relationships provide support, encouragement and guidance through the student'[s school years. Mentors meet with their "mentees" for one hour a week during the school day on school grounds. Mentors may use their time with their students to read together, play games, workout in the gym, walk outside and talk, discuss current events, set personal goals or work together on classroom assignments.
Description
Mentors should be community based adults, who plan to remain in the community for at least three years. Mentors should be open-minded, non-judgmental, good listeners and able to stick to a commitment. All ages over 22 are welcome.
