BUILD is an innovative and successful college readiness non-profit organization. Through entrepreneurship based, experiential learning, BUILD ignites the potential of youth from under-resourced communities and equips them for high school, college and career success. By helping students develop and run their own small business, BUILD supplements traditional school with critical skill-building for the future. Using a structured group mentoring model, BUILD matches two mentors with a business team of 4-8 youth entrepreneurs for one academic year to work together to create strong relationships and help students develop critical 21st century skills.

A BUILD Mentor is invested, builds relationships, values higher education, and is a champion for the BUILD program.
IS INVESTED BUILD mentors are interested and eager to support high school students through the experiential learning process. They make a weekly commitment and understand the importance of consistency for our students' success. Their commitment to BUILD helps cultivate accountability within our students. They might travel for work on occasion but always communicate their travel plans ahead of time. They may even Skype in for session when they're away.
BUILDS RELATIONSHIPS Our mentors understand the importance of developing strong relationships with their students, and know this requires time and mutual trust and respect. They let students drive their business forward and learn how and when to provide guidance and leadership. BUILD mentors are excited to share their experiences and stories and learn from our students. They might be the first to jump in and answer an icebreaker question when the rest of the group hesitates.
VALUES HIGHER EDUCATION They are passionate about equal access to opportunity for all youth, regardless of background or circumstances. They help students see an array of options and pathways to college and career success. They might share a college experience of their own - advice around study habits, their favorite dining halls, and how to have fun AND stay focused in college.
IS A BUILD CHAMPION BUILD Mentors advocate for BUILD and our BUILDers in their networks. They might bring a group of their friends to a student sales bazaar or connect a BUILDer with a summer internship at their workplace.
