Mission Statement

Mentors will meet with youth (ages 2 - 18) when they come to a site for a Summer Feeding Program. Each volunteer will be assigned an age group to mentor. In addition to communicating with the youth socially, the mentor will utilize materials provided to further the youth's character development skills.

Description

Men and women are invited to apply to be volunteer Mentors to children who participate in a Summer Feeding Program. The youth in attendance will be divided into different age groups and each group will be assigned a mentor. Groups can have two - six youth. The volunteer's hours will be 12 - 1:00, Monday - Friday, June 27 - September 2, 2016. Each volunteer mentor must meet the following requirements: age 18 or above, education level of high school graduate (or GED) or above, desires to help youth achieve their potential in life, desires to share their experiences with the youth, desires to help youth problem solve, desires to help the youth develop into productive citizens, submit background checks and complete mentor training provided by Better People. Each successful applicant will be trained and oriented in the expectations to be fulfilled. All applications must be received by May 1st by contacting Better People, Inc. @ (804) 745-1610.
