Mission Statement

Legacy Youth Mentoring provides friendship-based mentoring opportunities which are meaningful and enrich the lives of students and mentors in Jackson County, Georgia.
Our mentors inspire lives through one-on-one mentoring while helping youth discover their strengths to guide them toward success. By fostering the development of strong relationships with adult role models we will see significant changes in youth behavior and success rates. On a yearly basis, we serve over 200 students in 18 schools with caring mentors. Our mentors commit to spend at least 30 minutes each week with their mentee for in-school, friendship based youth mentoring.

Description

Students are referred to the Legacy Youth Mentoring program by counselors, teachers, social workers, or a parent/guardian. Students may be going through a difficult or challenging situation and are in need of an additional caring adult role model. Our mentors are exceptional community members who want to help young people achieve their potential and discover their strengths.

We pair community volunteers with students in need of positive role models, friends, and motivators. Potential new mentors must attend a new mentor training session, pass a criminal background check, and agree to spend at least 2 hours a month in-school with their student. Lindsay's Legacy volunteer mentors have the choice of working at a school close to their home or place of employment. Working with 20 schools in our county provides convenient options for our mentors.
