Mission Statement

The Retire and Senior Volunteer Program recruits, screens, trains, and places volunteers, ages 55 and older, to mentor youth affected by incarceration. Mentoring Children of Incarcerated Parents (MentorCHIP) offers children of prisoners the opportunity to explore new educational opportunities, express themselves creatively and emotionally, build meaningful relationships and gain new experiences. Children are empowered to speak openly about their family histories and their feelings of anger, sorrow and frustration. The mentoring program helps children to feel safe, nurtured and accepted in a strength-based environment that fosters positive development and successful outcomes. Mentoring Youth of Promise (MentorUP) was created to offer site-based mentoring with an academic and asset-building focus to build the academic skills and social skills of youth involved in the juvenile justice system. MentorUP does this by pairing young people with well trained, highly motivated volunteers.

Volunteers must commit to attend the training and serve a minimum of one year.
