Mission Statement

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville's vision is that all children achieve success in life. Our mission is "to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever". We partner with parents/guardians, volunteers and other sin the community and hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program achieving improved self-confidence and educational success and avoiding risky behaviors. Big Brothers Big Sisters' mentoring programs occur in two settings - Community and School. Mentors are required to make at least a one-year commitment. Mentors meet in person with their mentee for an average of four hours per month. In the Community-based setting, the mentor, youth and the youth's family make arrangements for where and when the mentor and youth will get together. During the time with their Big, children gain new skills, explore new interests and expand their experiences beyond their family or neighborhood. In the School-based setting, mentors meet one day per week with their mentees during the school day, at lunchtime, or after school. Teachers and/or parents identify those children who can most benefit from an extra caring adult in their lives.
